Although the Hill College women’s basketball team ended the first half of conference play in sixth place, head coach Antreanna Brooks is pleased with the team's performance so far this season.
The Rebels (12-10, 3-4) look to bounce back and work their way to a potential spot in the Region 5 Tournament at the end of the season.
"The conference is as good as it has ever been,” Brooks said. “Every single night, teams are competing...and you never really know who’s going to beat who until the final buzzer goes off.”
Brooks also hopes for a strong finish during the second half of conference play as well as to continue to compete and play as a team.
“We need to continue to make our opponents defend us everywhere on the court, and never take a night [game] off.”
Hill College already has signature wins over Grayson College and Cisco College – who both sit above the Rebels in the conference standings – and the Rebels continue to remain competitive despite only having eight players on the roster.
Sophomore guard KJ Walker (Fort Worth) is currently in second place in Region 5 averaging 19 points per game; and sixth in three-point percentage.
Teammate Savannah Velazquez, a sophomore guard from Houston, is currently fourth in the region for field goal percentage; sophomore forward Trinity Bane (McAllen) leads Region 5 in blocks; and sophomore forward Iasia Goldman is third in blocked shots.
The Rebels have three remaining home games on their schedule – Cisco College (Feb. 21), Collin College (Feb. 28) and Ranger College (March 9).
