Softball team completes successful 2026 season with 25 wins
For the first time in more than a decade, the Hill College softball team won 25 games in a season and proved to be a contender in the highly-competitive North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference.
Hill College (25-35, 9-23) continued to get stronger as the 2026 season came to a close – winning its last four-game series against Ranger College.
Although Head Coach Gregory Cary was happy with the team’s 25-win season, there were a few narrow losses against nationally ranked opponents he wished he could have back.
“We were just a few outs away from taking a home win against McLennan Community College,” Cary said, “and we lost an 11-10 outcome at Weatherford College in March after being up, 10-1, at the end of the third inning.”
In fact, three out of four of the Rebels’ losses to McLennan Community College were by four runs or fewer. MCC also received an at-large bid to participate in the NJCAA Division I Softball World Series May 25-30.
Hill College remains in one of the most competitive conferences in NJCAA Division I softball. Temple College, for example, lost in finals of the NJCAA Division I Softball World Series to Northeast Alabama.
Statistically, the Rebels finished the 2026 season with 313 runs scored off 402 hits. They also recorded 77 doubles as a team, 10 triples, and 26 home runs.
Freshman infielder Halle Joy (Canada) led the Rebels in hitting with 60 hits (24 for extra bases) and an overall batting average of .375. Teammate Kaia Cobb (Colorado) led the team with 52 runs scored and 26 stolen bases on the season.
