Hill College welcomes new softball coach Gregory Cary
Hill College welcomes Gregory Cary as the new softball coach.
Gregory Cary comes to Hill College from Lamar Community College in Lamar, Colorado, where he was the head softball coach for the 2024 season. He brings a record of 148 career wins.
Prior to his time at Lamar, Cary was the head coach of the softball teams at Highland Community College in Higland, Kansas; Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas; Brooklyn College in Brooklyn, New York; and Monroe College in Rochelle, New York.
“I am incredibly thankful for the opportunity here at Hill College. Coaching softball has taken me to many places, but Texas has always been somewhere I wanted to be. Now I’m here and couldn’t be more excited. I want to thank the administration for this amazing opportunity. Hill College softball is going to represent the school and community well, both on and off the field. It’s going to be fun to watch,” said Cary.
Under Cary’s direction at Lamar, the team had a 14-game win improvement from the previous season, while also setting numerous program records and coaching incoming freshmen. At Highland, he set a program record with 21 consecutive wins and a 40-win season, as well as one of his players receiving Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the conference.
While at Bethany College, Cary led the team to fourth in the country at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) World Series, with one of his players being named Player of the Year for the conference.
Cary holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications and media journalism from the State University of New York at Purchase College and an Associate of Arts degree in humanities from Corning Community College. Prior to beginning his coaching career, he played two seasons of collegiate baseball.
“Coach Cary comes to Hill College with enthusiasm and optimism for the softball program," athletic director Randy Graves said in the statement. "Greg is known for his ability to recruit, develop talent, and he has a strong understanding of what it will take to be successful in the toughest softball junior college conference in the nation, the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference,” said Dean of Students and Athletics Randy Graves.
